My Responsive Creation from the Community Building Volunteer Journey: The Song

This installation art is a well-known music score: Home! Sweet Home.
When audiences stand in front of this work and try to hum, they will immediately know what the song is. Singing this song, they will recall memories of home. Whether the memories are happy or sad, they are unique. When working with children from dysfunctional families this process helps me to rearrange my own thoughts on home.

As a volunteer at Kaohsiung First Community University, I worked with children from dysfunctional families, collaborating with teachers and social workers to support them. Our art team adopted a non-guided approach, encouraging the children to actively participate in creative activities.
By the end of our companionship project, Professor Chang and our team organized an exhibition at Kaohsiung SinPinPier – Absolutely Art Space, showcasing not only the children’s artwork but also our own response pieces. This experience allowed me to reflect on my role, process my observations, and recognize the countertransference that occurred in the classroom.
Moreover, it reinforced my belief that my passion for art is deeply intertwined with psychology, leading me to reconsider my path in design.
