Happy Lunar new year!

Recently, in our room, we set up a home corner for celebrating the upcoming Lunar new year or called Chinese new year for children to learn through play. It is not only a good opportunity for some of our educators who have Asian backgrounds to share their culture and stories with colleagues, children, and families, but also a great opportunity for children to appreciate and embrace our Asian communities and culture in Australia.
The round table and plenty of dishes symbolize the family reunion and the hope of abundance. The red signs displayed on the wall and in front of the doors are attracting good luck and fortune. This year is the year of the tiger so children can see tiger pictures in the red sign as well. We set up a kitchen area in the home corner as well because in “Feng Shui” we believe “kitchen” takes a really important part of the health and fortune in the house.
There are so many imaginative plays happening in the lunar new year home corner! Imaginative play provides a really good opportunity for children to practice and develop their language and social skills by merely being with and talking to others. It boosts the development of problem-solving and self-regulation skills. And more importantly, it’s so much fun!
Here are some pictures that children who enjoyed playing in the home corner. We wish you have a happy Lunar new year! Maligayang bagong Taon! Chúc mừng năm mới!
